DESCRIPTION

Guided public tours of Pockoy Island Shell Ring 1 are offered three times per day.

Tour 1:10 - 10:45am

Tour 2: 1 - 1:45pm

Tour 3: 2 - 2:45pm

Tours are guided by Botany Bay Heritage Preserve volunteers and/or an SCDNR archaeologist. You may observe the archaeologists working from 10am - 3pm if you arrive between tours. Once you arrive at Pockoy Island Shell Ring 1, please sign in for your tour with an SCDNR representative at the archaeology field station. You will have the opportunity to volunteer at the excavation site following your tour.

PRE-REGISTRATION

Pre-registration is not required for individuals or families visiting the site. Large groups (15 or more individuals) are encouraged to pre-register with SCDNR archaeologist Meg Gaillard (GaillardM@dnr. sc.gov). Boy Scout troops who want to earn an Archaeology Merit Badge at Pockoy are required to pre-register as space is limited for merit badge programs.
